For fun we have created a little game which we think will help you learn about the decisions behind creating and managing a Game Park in East Africa...We will add additional scenarios to this as time goes on but lets not wait for that, lets get started now!..Tanzania is looking to create a new game park and you have been asked to help...The main objectives have been decided on and they are as follows.
  • Encompass a complete ecosystem if possible.
  • Be financially profitable. (High visitor attendance versus low costs)
  • Provide a place to introduce endangered species from other parts of Africa.
Below is a list of areas that have been suggested...They are fictional areas, but they represent realistic conditions and challenges faced by the Tanzanian National Parks department...Make a choice for one of them and the pros and cons will be revealed after you make your selection.

. The Kipili Plateau is situated in one of the most remote parts of Tanzania...There are no towns nearby and no permanent roads so this area is one of the few remaining true wildernesses...The ecosystem contains a good diversity of flora and fauna and the temperature is moderate year-round due to the elevation.

. This sounds good!

. The Mbaga Mountains are made up of steep-walled peaks which top out at about 12,000 feet...The lower slopes are covered by a dense tropical forest inhabited by a wide range of animals, although no lions...This small range is less than a days drive from a city where many safaris originate.

. This sounds great!

. The Momella plains start on the outskirts of the small city of Momella and extend south...A wide variety of antelope exist though few predators remain...Permanent water exists here so the animals tend to remain year round.

. Wait..this sounds even better!

. The Iliaho Steppe is composed of rolling hills disected by the Shama river...There are no people in this region and it will probably remain this way due to the tetse fly infestation...A macadam road runs along the northern edge of the region which eventually passes through to the capital city a few hours away.

. I like this one!

. The Usangu Flats is a large floodplain which harbors a tremendous amount of birdlife...The flats are flooded during the rainy season and typically accessible only during the height of the dry season...They have a huge hippo and crocodile population and many species from the surrounding regions migrate here during the dry season.

. My final answer!
